I am loving the Olympics this year. I have been taping everything but I'm finding it much easier to watch some of the highlights on the internet. I loved watching Michael Phelps and his team with the relay race. It was impossible for me not to be full of emotion and excitement for them.
I also LOVE learning about the older athletes and how they've trained for the Olympics. I especially loved learning about Melanie Roach. Can you believe a mother of three can train for the Olympics? Geez. I've felt so OLD the past couple years. I've felt like there was no hope for me and any athletic part of me was gone. I don't feel that way today. I have absolutely loved my Total Health and Fitness program I've been on, and feel so good. I certainly don't have Olympic aspirations but I do want to be able to be able to be active for a long time. 2005-2007 I was in pretty bad shape. I remember skiing with my sister and being amazed how much I couldn't do. It was horrible. Last Fall I finally started going to the gym thanks to my friend Jennifer. I was not in the mood to diet but I at least made it to the gym. By December I already noticed a big improvement. I wasn't skinner at all but I was way stronger. We went on a cruise and they had that cool Flowrider surfboarding thing. I did pretty good on it. I looked a little dorky but I was even able to do do barrel rolls and stand up on it! I KNOW it was because I was lifting weights. It was so exciting. I had no problem rock climbing either. Skiing in the winter of 2008 was no problem either. I felt strong and did just fine. Yay! Now I'm finally in the mood to diet and even really excited about it.
If you've been following my blog you know I'm starting my third week on my diet and fitness plan. This week I lost 2 lbs and 0.2% body fat. I'm on track to meet my goal in 16 more weeks. I would have liked to have seen at least a half a percentage of body fat lost but it's no big deal because I lost 1.2% the week before. It's so motivating to be on a plan that I know will work and will help me to be an active healthy person again. It's pretty motivating being on this plan while watching these amazing athletes compete in the Olympics.
Speaking of losing weight. Keith has has quietly lost 40 lbs in the past 6 months. How awesome is that? He looks really good now. He and I are totally different in our approaches. He simply started eating small meals and usually stopped eating when his plate was a half to a third gone. He also hasn't been snacking. It's pretty amazing what he's done. He looks really good.
